Conference Bursary

The SSCE has a longstanding tradition of encouraging participation by students, unwaged members, early-career academics, and ministers on low incomes. Accordingly, we invite members on low incomes to apply for bursaries towards conference costs.

Any member is very welcome to apply for a bursary if you believe your circumstances may merit additional help. In the first instance, please send an e-mail to Jennifer Moberly at j.l.moberly@durham.ac.uk and we will contact you to request a confidential declaration of your circumstances. The deadline for receipt of bursary applications for the 2022 conference will be Monday 6th June 2022, and the outcome of applications will be communicated by e-mail (to the address from which you applied) by Friday 1st July 2022. Bursary applications are assessed confidentially. Please note that many of our members pay their conference fees out of their own pockets, so lack of access to institutional subsidies alone does not necessarily constitute special circumstances.

If you are applying for a bursary, please wait to register for the conference until you have received the outcome of the application. A bursary-award ticket option will be made available on the online registration page once the outcome of bursary applications is communicated, for the use of those who have been awarded bursaries.

Please note: in order to receive a bursary, you must be a member of the Society. If you are not already a member, please follow this link.
