BAME Bursary

The Society for the Study of Christian Ethics is keen to facilitate Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic (BAME) students, scholars and practitioners to participate and contribute to its annual conferences. [We understand that some prefer to identify as African, African Caribbean, Asian, Majority World Christians or Christians from the Majority World, or of Majority World heritage.] We want to address the marginalisation of their voices, questions, experiences and perspectives and to become a space for deeper and broader conversation around the topics which constitute the endeavour of Christian ethics.

To that end, the Society is partnering the Susanna Wesley Foundation to introduce a bursary scheme for BAME scholars that will cover much of the cost of attending the conference.  If you are BAME or someone of BAME heritage who would like to join us at the conference but for whom the cost presents an obstacle, please do apply.

The scheme works as follows:

  1. Email treasurer@ssce.org.uk to apply for the bursary, simply indicating that you are eligible for the bursary and would like to apply. Successful applicants will be awarded bursaries (supported by funding from the Susanna Wesley Foundation). The deadline for bursary applications is Monday, 23rd August 2021.
  2. If you have applied for a bursary you will be notified by e-mail (to the address from which you applied) of the outcome by Monday, 30th August 2021. If you have applied for a bursary, please do not make your booking until you know the outcome of your application. This is because bursary ticket options will be made available via the online registration page after bursary applications have been reviewed.

Please note: in order to receive a bursary, you must be registered with the Society. If you are not already registered, please follow this link.

There are a limited number of bursaries available, and bursaries will be awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis. In the event that the BAME bursary scheme is over-subscribed, unsuccessful applicants will be considered for the standard conference bursary.

If you have any questions about the bursaries, please contact treasurer@ssce.org.uk .
